Colombia: ICTSI–PSA strengthens Puerto Aguadulce with giant gantry cranes and hybrid RTGs

In Buenaventura, Colombia’s main port access on the Pacific coast, the joint venture Sociedad Puerto Industrial de Aguadulce (SPIA) — bringing together ICTSI and PSA International — has just received new heavy equipment intended to accelerate the terminal’s performance. The site now includes two super post-Panamax cranes as well as three hybrid RTGs, a combination designed to increase productivity while reducing the energy footprint of yard operations.
The new gantries, announced as the largest in the country, allow for the handling of wider ships with greater flexibility, including on heavy loads. The expected impact is immediate: better productivity at the dock, reduced turnaround times, and more comfortable deployment options for shipping companies.
On the sustainability side, hybrid RTGs are presented as capable of significantly reducing fuel consumption compared to traditional diesel equipment, while supporting the terminal’s increased throughput. In the end, it is the entire logistical competitiveness of the Colombian Pacific corridor that aims for an upgrade.
