Fire knocks out power on Grimaldi Euromed car carrier; tow and inspection under way

A Grimaldi Euromed car carrier suffered an engine-room fire that disabled propulsion late on Monday, with the vessel reported safe and a response plan underway. Initial company statements say the blaze was contained and authorities have been notified while towage and technical inspection are organized; no pollution or injuries were immediately reported.
Automotive shippers using Med services are watching for schedule ripple effects across regional feeders and terminals as operators reshuffle capacity to cover the blank sailing. In recent months, heightened marine-incident scrutiny has led insurers to press for stricter cargo-stowage and fire-detection protocols on ro-ro trades.
