Frankfurt Cargo Services names Thomas Schürmann managing director Germany

SATS-owned Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has announced Thomas Schürmann will become managing director Germany of its subsidiary Frankfurt Cargo Services (FCS) starting next month.
Schürmann will join FCS in April after serving as head of cargo operations and delivery at Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi. He brings more than 20 years of experience in international management and cargo operations and was most recently responsible for Etihad’s global cargo operations across more than 80 international passenger and cargo stations.
WFS said Schürmann will draw on airline and ground handling experience gained at Etihad Cargo and Flughafen Düsseldorf Cargo to strengthen operations at FCS.
Current FCS managing director Claus Wagner will remain within the group, taking over management of the Frankfurt operation of parent company WFS. In his new role, Wagner will focus on expanding WFS’s freight forwarding and e-commerce handling services at the hub.
Wagner has led FCS since 2019 and guided its growth as the largest airline-independent freight handler at Frankfurt Airport. With over 30 years of logistics experience, he previously held senior executive positions including CFO at Europcar and COO at DPD.
WFS recently began operations at a 24,000 sq m site in Cargo City South with two warehouses and two office buildings, designed to handle around 100,000 tonnes of import and export freight annually for e-commerce and freight forwarding clients. John Batten, CEO of WFS Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia, said the appointment strengthens the Frankfurt team and positions the group to achieve ambitious growth targets.
