Towage — MSC and Boluda create a global champion in tugboats (valuation > €2 billion)

In the port economy, towing has become a strategic building block linked to immediate availability, berth safety, and terminal productivity. By merging their towage activities, Boluda Corporación Marítima and MSC are establishing a new reference player, structured thru a holding company based in Luxembourg and valued at over 2 billion euros.
Behind the announcement, the business signal is clear. The invisible but critical services of ports are concentrating at a time when the performance of stops directly conditions the competitiveness of lines and hubs. By consolidating fleets and operations, the new entity gains in standardization, investment power for modernization and energy transition, as well as in negotiation capacity for longer port concessions.
For the logistics ecosystem, the impact appears indirect but real. When towage becomes more robust and better coordinated, ports gain reliability, which reduces the risks of unforeseen congestion and stabilizes turnaround times, ultimately influencing the total transportation cost for shippers.
The battle for hubs is no longer won only at the dock; it is also played out in the robustness of port services capable of absorbing global volatility.
